Whole TV libraries are free and above-board now, funded by a few ads instead of a subscription. Between free streamers, broadcaster catch-up and public-domain classics, there's years of watching here at no cost.

Free, legal, ad-supported TV

• Tubi, Pluto TV, Plex, the Roku Channel — huge on-demand TV catalogues plus hundreds of free live channels. Pluto TV in particular runs 24/7 themed channels (single-series marathons, news, film) with nothing to sign up for.
• Broadcaster free tiers & catch-up — most big networks put recent episodes and back-catalogue online free with ads; in the UK, BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4 and My5 are all free with a licence/registration.
• YouTube — many networks post full classic episodes and whole series to official channels, free.

Classic & public-domain TV

• The Internet Archive hosts a large collection of public-domain and out-of-copyright television — early series, classic anthology shows, old news and documentaries — free to stream or download.
• Your public library — Kanopy and Hoopla (free with a library card) carry TV box sets and documentary series as well as films.

Legit free TV is ad-supported or library-backed — it never needs a card number to "unlock" a show. Skip the pirate-stream sites; the free-and-legal options above are safer and usually higher quality.
